Hello everyone, I just found this site, it's fantastic! I am in need if anyone can be of help, on the surname of Carric or Carrick of Ayrshire?
I was to understand the orignal spelling is KRX abt. 1030 A.D. Duncan de Carric or Carrick Earl of Ayrshire had 2 sons Nigal and Neil. One
migrated to Ireland and started the Kennedy clan. Any one know anything about the mentioned names, migration or name change etc?

Hi,
I am new to family research and was wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking for my husband's great grandfather. His name is John Smith (Hairdresser) aged 26 when he married Flora Anderson on 23/06/1915 iat 13 Barr Street, Ardrossan. He gives his father as John Smith (General Labourer) and his mother as Mary (Fergusson). At the time John Smith Junior was living at 25 Winton Street, Ardrossan. It's John Smith Senior that I would like to find out about. Thank you.

Hi
I am looking for any Smiths from Stevenston. My g grandfather James Smith left Stevenston sometime after 1901 (he is listed in the 1901 census aged 6) His mother died the next year and the next record we have of him is joining the Australian army in 1917. His parents were James Smith and RoseAnn Murphy, he had two sisters RoseAnn and Julia (who died aged 7) and two brothers Michael and Patrick (never married). He also had an Uncle Patrick & Aunt Annie who had five children Mary, Patrick, John, Annie & Julia. I think John Smith lived in 22 Rowanside Terrace, Ardrossan as when his Uncle Patrick died there was a J Smith (nephew) listed as the informant at the above address. Any help would be gratefully appreciatied.

Tracie,

Have any of the Smith family contacted you? I was brought up in Rowanside Terrace and am aware of the Smith family at No. 22.

I am interested in 233 Thistle Street. I was wondering if you knew anything about the building, was it a large apartment complex. I am doing my cousins genealogy and her grandfather was born 17 September 1876.
His name was Alexander Hunter. Was that a slum area?

I am related to William Cowan born c1815 who married Janet Mercer in 1842 (both from Selkirk). In 1861 & 71 they were in Dumfries, by 1881 widow Janet was in Ayr (Carrick St). Could go on .... Is this the same family?

reply to rosemary fisher,
Dear Rosemary, sorry to be so long this seems to be the way to contact you. I can't see there being a connection here it looks as if you are into Scottish Border Cowan's it is a common name in that area spreading up to Nithsdale and further beyond that.
I will look up your Carrick Street Census but although Janet and William are my family names they have different sources.
Kind regards. Ron

Hello Ron,

My name is Steve Lyons and I am the great great grandson of Walter Frederick Cowan, son of William Cowan. I live in Sydney Australia.

I believe Walter came to Australia in 1873 aboard the Callixene. He married Theresa Rose Riley in 1877. Their daughter Alice Janet Cowan married Edmund William Lyons (my great grandparents). Their only son Edmund James Lyons is my grandfather.

I would be very interested in any information you have on William & Janet Cowan, particularly what happened to them after the 1861 Scottish Census. Did they come to Australia or Canada? Also, info on their siblings and parents.

Also am I right in saying that William's daughter Margaret married Thomas Rogerson.

Any information of the Cowan's and their descendants would much appreciated. I can give you what I know of the Cowans in Australia plus the Lyons side.

Regards

Steve Lyons
